Just a trifle of an idea really...regarding Fortville.

My name is Mark Brown. I have a unique background and career path.

There will be plenty of why's and how's - but those come after.

Here is the overall chain of ideas:

1. Amazon/China/Walmart +Wall Street = bad for small towns and Main Street USA.

2. Local, Self-sustaining economies are vital to community identity.

As an amateur historian and genealogist, I can tell you why Fortville succeeded better than Maxwell, Eden, Mohawk, McCordsville, etc. We had a self-producing economy and a Main Street. That's why Fortville survived better than the others.

3. People are sick of the social media illusion. But they need to be engaged. And people love stories.

Give them a show....like the Disney Store. Uniforms, "old-fashioned service"  via a story that links all of them together. Brown's Body Barn, B&W Tools, "Spike & Sam's Horseless Carriages"

Fortville 49'ers Marketplace (?) - where old fashioned ideas are given new life. Pragmatically sustainable ideas for tool refurbishment and restoration, perhaps a summer internship program for high schoolers interested Use retirees to come in and craft individual items - e.g. a hammer handle over the course of an afternoon. People can watch things being worked on and can buy refurbished items on site that are American made, American Used and American Restored. :-)

Get other stores to focus on production, not boutique.

That is how you save the town's identity. Production.

It isn't always to be the most profitable, or the cheapest. Just try to be the best.

There is a story and a reason behind everything, oriented towards:

1. Face to face engagement

2. Supporting local businesses while giving a one-fingered peace sign salute to Big Tech and Big Box stores and the massive lots of Chinese crap that is the same everywhere you go.

3. Save the unique small town appeal and identity that Fortville has always had over the years.

4. Just because I'm quirky doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I think I've created a different kind of local business model and I'm curious to see if anyone would be interested in learning more.
